4 Myths about MBA

MBA or Master of Business Administration is a post graduate degree that is pursued by students interested in business management. Today, however, almost every student in our country wants to do an MBA without knowing all the facts about the course. This is partly the fault of advertising about the course and partly the fault of media for falsely glorifying the course. No doubt, MBA is a course that is very helpful for one’s career but everyone need not to do it. In this article, we have busted some misconceptions about MBA and shed light on the truth behind those misconceptions.

Myth 1: Only people with an MBA degree get high paying jobs

1 MYTH ABOUT MBA

Fact: Not at all! There are thousands of fields where you can get high packages without a MBA. The above misconception has formed due to the fact that most of the time we see people with a MBA getting high paying jobs. While it is true that people who have an MBA are likely to get a high paying job, it is not the only way to get good salary. There are fields like accountancy, R&D, law and legal advisory, customer service, etc. where an MBA is not required. These fields also have a high package. So it is not necessary to have a MBA to get a high paying job.

Myth 2: Good institutes only prefer candidates with considerable work experience.Work Experience Required for MBA-image

Fact: Not entirely true. It is true that candidates with more work experience are likely to get some preference. This does not mean that only those candidates are selected. Candidates who do not have any work experience are also selected. The selection is based on your written test and interview scores. In case of a tie in those scores, the work experience becomes critical. Otherwise, work experience does not affect your chances of getting selected considerably.

Myth 3: MBA from any institute will help me get a good job.

 MYTH ABOUT MBA 3

Fact: False. There are around 1000 institutes in India that offer a MBA. So obviously, pursuing MBA from just “any” institute is never good enough. That’s why there are premier institutes in India for MBA. We all know about the various Indian Institutes of Management that are the best institutes in India for a MBA. A simple google search will reveal many more good institutes that offer a MBA degree. So it must be kept in mind that only a MBA from a good institute is worthy of providing you with a good job.

Myth 4: MBA entrance exams are extremely difficult to crack.

 MYTH ABOUT MBA 4

Fact: Not exactly. The tests do require a certain amount of aptitude to crack but they are not insanely difficult. This is because these exams follow a percentile system. Let us assume that the test is of 25 marks and the highest scorer has a score of 19. Then if you score 19 then you will have a percentile of 100. Generally, in these tests, the highest score is not that high. So it must be kept in mind that one should only attempt those questions that one knows the answer to. This will ensure that you do not get negative marks due to wrong answers and therefore score a high percentile.

So as we see, there are a lot of myths about MBA which are not true. MBA is not the only way to get a high paying job. You should always try to go for that career which interests you.

ALL THE BEST!
