About CLAT Exam

CLAT stands for Common Law Admission Test and every year a National law University (NLU) conducts it. The notification for this year i.e. CLAT 2017 is already released. It is a National level entrance exam for National Level Law Schools and Universities. The CLAT 2017 will be conducted by Chanakya National Law University, Patna. The exam is necessary as the successful passing of it qualifies you for admission in Integrated L.L.M and L.L.B courses which are offered by 18 National Law Universities of India. This year CLAT is scheduled to be held on May 14 and further important dates and details will be discussed in the last section of this post. But it is important to know the last date for submissions of the application form is March 31, 2017.

For General/OBC:  Rs 4000
For SC/ST Rs. 3500

First Admission Notification: 31st December 2016
Online application Starts: 1st January 2017
Last date for online submissions: 31st March 2017
Availability of Admit Card: 20th April 2017
Date of Exam: 14th May 2017 (3:00 PM to 5:00 PM)
Uploading of Answer Key: 16th May 2017
Result & merit list release:  29th May 2017

Eligibility Criteria:

For UG Courses:

You must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with the minimum 45% marks (Unreserved/OBC/SAP categories) and 40% marks (SC/ST category). If you are an Appearing candidate of Class 10+2 or equivalent examination in March/April 2017 then you are also eligible to appear in the entrance exam.

Upper age limit: 20 years as on 1st July 2017 (for Unreserved/NRIs Candidates)  22 years (for reserved categories).

For PG Courses:

LL.B. or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks (Unreserved/OBC/SAP categories)   50% marks (SC/ST category).
• If you are appearing in the qualifying examination then you are also eligible to appear CLAT.
• No upper age limit for PG courses.

Exam pattern:

The exam will be conducted on the online platform so you better prepare yourself for the virtual world. The maximum marks will be of 200 and you need to clear the cut off if you want to be considered for counseling. Yes, your All India Rank, as well as the category rank, does matter for confirming the seat in the Best College or Best University you want to go for.
