Most Common Challenges Faced by Preschool Teachers

Being a pre-school teacher may look like a simple job – following a routine everyday but, the truth is, it is not as simple as it looks like. Inside the classroom is a new dimension, a new world, a new paradigm – everything is new because aside from the reality that you want to show them, kids who are enrolled to preschools are also having a different reality that would make the two worlds almost different; but, the preschool teacher should make this two worlds meet halfway or else, one world might dominate over the other.

Everyday a preschool teacher is encountering different strains of challenges but, what you will read in this article are the most common challenges faced by preschool teachers inside the classroom.

Just in case you are planning to pursue a degree in preschool education or planning to shift your career from ‘someone’ to a noble preschool teacher, take a look at these challenges and assess yourself if you will make it as a preschool teacher:

They like to drink milk most of the time

Yes, receiving kids from parents early every morning with feeding bottles is no new. Sometimes, parents will in fact instruct you how to make one if their baby gets hungry and needs to be fed. So, you are not just a teacher, you become a nanny at the same time. Although there are schools that have assistant teachers, who do the milk preparation, there are also schools that do not bother hiring assistant teachers. As a result, it will make you a super teacher, that at the end the day, you will realize you have done more on feeding them than of teaching them.

They don’t like wearing diapers

Imagine that you are in the momentum of their activity and someone inside the classroom did poop and is not wearing a diaper. You will have to definitely set aside what you are doing to clean the kid and change his clothes. You do this while telling the entire class to behave and don’t move from where they are, but of course, they will not listen to you; you just lost sight of them for few seconds but the moment you get back to them, you will see a marathon – live and ongoing!

They don’t take your activities seriously

Of course, what will you expect from all these kids? They will more prefer running and jumping than sitting and connecting the dots and shading colors on the activity sheets. Plus, you will be pressured because the parents would ask you about the work of their child and of course as a teacher, reasoning out that the kids are enjoying running and jumping more than coloring, reading and all will make you a bad teacher. So, you do a little edit to their work to make it at least presentable and to protect your reputation as well.

They cry whenever they don’t like anything

Crying is music. This is actually an ironic statement if you are a preschool teacher. Kids cannot just help but cry if they do not like something. It is their way of saying, “I am not taking that”, “I am not doing that”, “I hate you” or “I want to go home!” So, you go right beside them and tell them that you love them and that they are very good if they stop crying and you would ask them how many stars they want as a reward if they stop crying.

But, even if these things happen every day, preschool teachers are very amazing because without them, a child can never learn at a very young age. So, if you plan to be a preschool teacher, I hope that this article doesn’t scare you, I hope that this makes you more excited to get into work and be that super teacher who is ready to make a difference!
