College Diaries: Everything Told in School is not true

College Diaries

If there is one thing educators love is to know everything about everything because, well, that is the definition of a teacher, isn´t it? Well, not entirely.

If you are a student, you know how teachers will always have an answer to your every question because that was what you expected. In fact, everything your teacher would say was the absolute truth and stone-graven. In those moments in which your teacher felt inspirational, philosophical, and on sage mode, they probably talked to you about college and the dreadful years awaiting you after graduation.

The truth is that most of the time we say such things just to scare you off and get you doing your work because “in college things are going to look darker”. Here are some things that teachers have probably told you that are not entirely true. Let´s have the debunking started!

  • “Classes in college are much more difficult.”

Ever heard of catering? This is what goes on in college. You start with the basics and as you are growing, the pressure will keep increasing and classes will in fact turn out more difficult. But do not fear, you will be equipped for them. If you are not, you might want to consider changing career.

  • “Teachers in college will not care as much as we do.”

It is not always the case. There are so many teachers with so many cultural contexts that it is unfair to case them all into the same stereotype. You will find educators who genuinely strive for your best and you will find those who might even give you an evil eye.

  • “Grading system is designed for you to study hard.”

Grading system is pretty much the same as in school. Every university might have their own particular system. The principle remains: If you study and do your work, you will pass through swiftly. Superior education institutions are in for providing the most effective ways to make you prove that you will be a good professional upon graduation.

  • “With this attitude you are having right now, you are in for failure in college.”

Experience has proven that your achievement in school is not always a representative of what you will become in college. The truth is that, once you are in the big school, growing up is almost obligatory. You will be fine as applying yourself will be easier once you realize that you are about to start a journey that will determine what your way of life is going to be, at least financially.
