Select a course based on your talent and aptitude!

Radha was very nervous. She knew she had done very well in her 12th grade board exams. She was good at Science and Maths and loved studying those subjects. But she did not wish to become a doctor like her parents. Both her parents were dentists. They had taken years to set up a thriving private practice and wanted Radha to become a dentist too. But Radha wanted to become an architect. She simply loved designing new things and had always been creative. So she decided to speak to her parents that night.

Psychometric tests are a useful tool to test your aptitude: Radha’s parents
were highly educated and immediately understood that they were on the verge
of forcing Radha to pursue a career that she was not interested in.

She took psychometric tests to find out what she was really good at. The
results proved that she was highly creative and liked to try out new things. She
is currently pursuing her final year in architecture and is excelling in her class.

Don’t succumb to peer pressure or select a course that looks lucrative: Each one of us is a unique human being. Just because there is a big demand for computer engineers or for doctors – does not mean you have to take it up as a career. The demands and needs of the market will keep fluctuating. You need to select a course that is good for you.

If you have no aptitude for Science or Math your test results and academic
scores will reflect it. All tests and exams are just a tool of gauging your
strengths and weaknesses. Some students take up engineering or medicine
despite low scores and then end up dropping a year or switching courses after a
couple of years. What a waste of time! And you end up with low self esteem too.

A society is comprised of plumbers, electricians, businessmen, software
engineers etc. All of us learn the skill of making money after we get our
education. But when we channelize our talents along with our aptitude – it leads
to success. It is your skill and expertise that matters. The money will
automatically flow – if you excel at your job.

So, selecting a course that matches your talent and aptitude is more important
than simply doing what others want you to do. Ultimately – it is your life – you
need to make your own choices!
