Is Kota really the best place in India to study JEE?

Of late, Kota, Rajasthan has been synonymous with success in IIT JEE entrance exam, owing to the vast number of selections to IIT’s year after year from various Kota-based institutions. Bansal Classes were the first to set their base in Kota, but now many new institutes too have sprung up like-Allen, Vibrant, Resonance, etc. But, one cannot tout them to be the best, purely on this criteria, since selecting a coaching Institute for yourself is a very personal affair and a lot of other factors come into play. You should never assume that Kota is the only best place in India to study or prepare for JEE.

WHERE DO YOU STAND?

Foremost, you need to first judge yourself and where to stand academically before taking the plunge of going away from your home to prepare for JEE. The ground level fact is that no institute cares enough for the student in lower batches, hence, if you’re an average student, it would be better if you focus on your boards, master NCERT syllabus and take a local coaching and aim to crack JEE Mains, which after the normalization rule, is based on your boards aggregate as well.

STUDY MATERIAL

The coaching institute’s prime job is to provide you with study material and just somehow give you an idea as to how to sail through it. Here, the pupil-teacher role comes into play. Almost all the coaching institutes in Kota, have huge groups comprising of the “cream” students of the nation, so an average student will not be able to get the kind of mentorship he/she requires. Also, after a few test series, you will be segregated into batches based on your rank. The “poster teachers” (addressing them as poster teachers, since they’ll be the ones you’ll meet when you’ll visit the institute and will floor you will their knowledge and convince you into joining the institute) aka the best faculty would teach the highest batch, while, generally the lower batches are provided with junior faculty.

Also, if you’ll be staying in Kota, you’ll have to find a hostel or a PG, which isn’t an easy task. You’ll be on your own, hence your health will suffer and chances are low that you’ll be blessed with good roommates. Owing to daily chores, you might not get enough time for self-study.

FACULTY

The next thing will be if the faculty is stable or not. Now, since many new institutes are coming up in Kota, the teachers keep switching institutes in order to get a juicier package. But, it is very difficult for a student to set an equation and understanding with a teacher, if the faculties keep changing. So, do check for how long the faculty has been working there in a particular institute.

YOUR HARDWORK

Last but not the least, it’s your own hard work, self-study and practice that will help you crack JEE. A vast majority of aspirants became toppers, by just focusing on the basics and boards, and taking a coaching near to their place of residence and devoting the time and money saved to self-study. The metro cities too offer a few good coaching institutes- Vidyamandir Classes, FIITJEE, Narayana, etc.

Choose wisely!
