PreSchool Education: Five Mistakes Teachers Should Avoid

Five Mistakes Teachers Should Avoid in PreSchool Education

Young learners’ education should be handled with a lot of care so as to enable learning to be easy and successful. Since children are naive and usually do naughty mistakes, as a teacher you should not criticize their behavior but correct and guide them. This enables them to learn. Due to anger or negligence most teachers usually shout at children’s naughty behaviors. The most common mistakes to be avoided are:

  • Poor relationship with learners

Best teachers relate well with their learners. Though as a teacher you may not have interest, you should find means of connecting with your learners even if it means faking it. This enables learners to find a friend in you. Nothing excites young learners like having a friend in their teacher. Remember you are their parent away from home. Learn how to bond well with your learners.

  • Teachers being impatient

As a preschool teacher you should be patient. Your patience will enable learners to see school as a good place to be. Children will fear you if you lack patience. They will keep their fears and concerns unto themselves. Children should be reminded repeatedly on how to do certain thing or not to do it. Children will ask you many irrelevant questions. As a good and passionate teacher, bear with their naivety. Never give up.

  • Poor classroom management

Handling of young learners can be challenging. As a successful pre-school teacher you should be learners’ friend but they should still view you as an authority figure. Be in full control of the class while remaining professional but fun. Create conducive environment for the young learners. Children are always playful, play with them. Ensure that the learners understand your role in the classroom. Train your learners on discipline and respect early enough.

  • Teacher not being dedicated

Preschool education requires dedication on the part of the teachers. You should have passion and believe in what you are doing. You should care about the well being and progress of each child in your class. Pay special attention to slow learners. Guide each child with passion. Show your learners love. I would recommend that if you lack dedication as a pre-school teacher, please change your career.

  • Poor personality

Lack of enthusiasm, impatience and lack of creativity should be avoided in early childhood education. You should relate well with both children and their parents.

Some pre-school teachers tend to have sour relationship with parents especially those love following their children’s progress. You should also treat all learners equally despite their learning capabilities. What other mistakes do you know that affects early preschool education?
