How to Unravel the Pitfalls in Academic Studies

“Nothing much happens on Fridays,” one writer of a local daily newspaper weekend edition commented on university students life.  Weekend schedule leaves no room for much else but social life.  You’d imagine university students are mature and focus on studies most of the time. Students at every level of education share common challenges and behavior patterns.

Peer group pressure is not the only hurdle students’ grapple with in education. Three pitfalls in academic studies stare students on the face across the board: Search for identity, social mirror and success image.  Left unchecked, these three pitfalls retard progress and make studies difficult but not impossible.

Search for Identity

“Who am I?” This is one of four fundamental basic life questions, anyone keen on success in life needs to address.

No one knows you better than you do.  Not your parents.  Not your teachers.  Not your peers.  You’re unique.  There is no one dead or alive like you. You’re the product of a unique blue print, designed and destined to create things of value in life.

Individual uniqueness is the one thing which sets you apart from the rest. You can resolve to take advantage of that unique identity to stride to the finish line in academic studies with ease today.

Social Mirror

Have you ever tried to drive a car on neutral gear?  The car won’t move, anymore than your life can stay in neutral.  You can’t be present in class/lecture in the body and absent in the mind.  Who are you fooling?

Leave the cares of life on the door step as you walk into class/lecture room and concentrate on studies. If you don’t the law of cause and effect will catch up with you.   You’ll be ill prepared to turn in assignments, term papers and take exams.

Take a peek at the social mirror and failure stares you on the face. Be in control of your life. Write and live according to your script by planning minute details of your study schedules in advance.

Success Image

Imagine your life seven, ten years from now.  How different will your life be?  Focus on that picture as you study in class, write term papers and sit for exams. It’s the only success image worth hanging on the wall of your heart.  Your success image hangs in the balance of unraveling three pitfalls in academic studies.

  • Identity – Knowing who you’re – You’re a unique blue print in nature.
  • Social Mirror – Do not take a peek at the social mirror to determine the next step in academic studies. You’ve a dream, let no one or social mirror divert your attention and rob you of the joy of realizing your dream.
  • Self Image – You’ve got what it takes to succeed in studies. Keep that success image sharp in your mind.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from. The ability to triumph begins with you. Always,” Oprah Winfrey, international acclaimed television talk show host said.
