IISc stands for the Indian Institute of Science. The year 1909 marked the foundation of this institute and was founded by Jamshetji Nusserwanji Tata. The major agenda of setting up this institute was to facilitate research aptitude as well as scientific temper throughout our country. As per its agenda, the IISc focused on research in an excellent manner.
IISc was set up in order to promote research in our country. The campus is set up in Bangalore that has a salubrious climate. It offers various different types of academic freedom to the students. All these factors of IISc, including the beautiful campus makes it a well sought campus for almost all the present young minds. It has approximately 40 departments and centers. All of them are divided into various domains, such as Electrical, Physical, Mechanical, Chemical and various other multidisciplinary sciences. There is no any other institute that can challenge the technical expertise of IISc. It has always been among the top rankings nationally, and it has also made us very proud on an international level.
Let me tell you that this is the very first time that any Indian institute has been ranked among top 10 in the World University Ranking. Last year saw two institutes in the top 20, but none of them in the list of top 10. The “Best Small University Rankings” were revealed by the THE, i.e. the Times Higher Education on Tuesday. First of all, let us know ‘What is a Small University?’
Well, a small university is a type of university that has less than 5000 students enrolled. In these world rankings, IISc Bangalore has been given 8th position. None of the other Indian Institute were able to enter into the list of even top 20, other than IISc Bangalore. The first rank of the Global University Rankings for the year 2017 is achieved by USA’s CalTech.
If only placement is concerned, then IISc will not be a good option. Surprised to read this?
In case you are surprised, have you ever heard that IISc students got the highest package? Have you ever seen in any news paper about the mind blowing placement of IISc. I guess the answer should be a NO. IISc has never covered the news because of its placements. The only thing it has been famous for is because of the inventions of so many different things. IISc has and is always been, involved to provide solutions to a variety of complex problems.
Good Placement was never an aim achieved by this Indian Institute of Science. It was started so as to create a platform for research work, which is its main focus. Students who get themselves enrolled in IISc are always prepared for the hectic schedule. This is because they know that all this hectic schedule is worth taking.
If you are placement oriented, then IISc is not a place for you. IISc is a place for researchers, wherein they develop deep understanding of all the concepts that you learn. You get to use all the latest equipments. You are not allowed to use any existing softwares, rather than you have to develop your own software, in case you wanna use one. This much detailed understanding needs full devotion of the students in the field of research. This is the reason that IISc is not much focused on placements. They don’t even give ample time to students in order to prepare for the placement exams. The quality of education that you will find in IISc is super awesome, given the case that you are not interested in placements. Hence, all the research inclined students must have IISc Bangalore as their first choice of preference.
