IIT
Indian Institute(s) of Technology are the elite colleges for engineering in the country. Like the Ivy League Colleges in the US, IITs are the top tier of the colleges in India. IITs are again divided into two subgroups, the new and the old IITs. The older IITs are generally considered better as compared to the newer ones. Some of the older IITs include IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur etc. All the IITs select their students based on their rank in the JEE. BITS
Birla Institute(s) of Technology and Science are a group of private universities that are among the top universities in India. NIT
National Institute(s) of Technology are another group of government funded institutes that offer high class education to the deserving students. Earlier, there were two separate exams for entrances into IITs and NITs. Now, however, the entrances have been clubbed together and it’s your rank and preference that decides which college you will join. NITs are also among the leading educational institutes in the country and they provide a lot of research avenues. Like IITs, NITs have a widespread campus network spanning all over the country. NITs are like the younger brother of IITs. They too have excellent research facilities and provide the students with excellent research and placement options.

Indian Institute(s) of Information Technology are government established institutes that have been given the status of Institutes of National Importance. Accordingly, they are not affiliated to any educational control board like AICTE or UGC. Additionally, it does not need any affiliation from any university. Out of all the IIITs, IIIT Hyderabad is generally regarded as the top most institute. Its labs and research facilitates are at par with IITs. To get into IIIT, you need to have a good rank in JEE. IIIT Hyderabad is considered as the best institute for pursuing Computer Science course in India.
NSIT
Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology is another top engineering institute in India. It is an autonomous institute that is affiliated to the University of Delhi. Established in 1983, it has established itself as one of the top institutes in India. Here also selection is based on the rank obtained by the student in JEE. NSIT comes under the category of Autonomous Institutions under the Govt. of NCT of Delhi and has excellent opportunities for research and placements.
