Study Tips and Methodology

Even though the way and method of studying differs from person to person, there are few things which remain constant for everyone, and once followed thoroughly, it will help you in optimizing your study technique so as to ensure that everything you study remains in your mind for a long-period of time.

  • First and Foremost, ensure that you are vividly awake. If you are sleepy or feeling drowsy, it’s not a right time to start studying. While you are starting to study, your mood should be fresh, so that everything you read enters your brain at once, and it becomes easier to understand them.
  • Find a suitable timing. Most people find it easier to study in the early hours of morning after a light nap, whereas others prefer to study late into the night. According to your comfort, suit a timing which is peaceful and has not many disturbances, so that you do not get distracted easily.
  • Find a quiet place. Your study room should be quiet, peaceful and free of disturbances. If it is too close to the living room where the television is being played, chances are that your mind gets distracted when it hears a nice piece of information on the television. Ensure that your room is not too close to the main road where the noise of traffic can disturb you. The peace of the room is essential to ensure that all your concentration lies on what you are studying and not on something else which can distract you from outside.
  • Rinse your face before you start studying. Wash your face with cold water, before you sit down for studying so that you feel wide awake and totally fresh once you start.
  • Avoid drinking Tea or Coffee. It’s a habit of many students to accompany their studies with beverages so that they don’t feel sleepy. Try not to do this as, even though it might help you in staying up, your brain’s capacity to remember and understand decreases.
  • Follow the 50-10 minute policy or 25-5 minute policy, according to your comfort. 50-10 minute policy means studying for 50 minutes and then taking a break for 10 minutes so that you get refreshed. But if you can’t concentrate for 50minutes at a stretch, then you can study for 25 minutes and then take 5 minutes break. When you see your whole performance for one hour, both will add up to the same, but the breaking pattern is different.
  • Do not study continuously even if you can manage it. The brain needs refreshment after every 50 minutes at least. Listen to music, or take a walk around the house for 5-10 minutes before you start studying again so that you can concentrate better.

These are some of the study tips you should keep in mind before you start studying. Usage of these methods will help you keep your concentration in check and also help you to effectively utilize time in order to enhance your way of learning.
