South Indian or North Indian Education: Which is Better?

South Indian or North Indian Education: Which is Better?

Though this subject is extremely subjective and demands great volumes of research but still this topic is very relevant in the context of education and especially in a country which is divided into infinite divisions based on multiple reasons. India is a nation where with every mile changes not only the water but also the language and the culture. Every zone has so many distinctions that setting one as the bench mark would be injustice to the other. Indian Education depends largely upon the perspective and outlook of a society majorly governed by its norms. Also the history and struggles of a society also determine the kind of people that shall emerge from it.

Comparing North Indian education to South Indian is a whole domain in itself but we can take a stand for the latter as we investigate it here explaining the reasons why is this so

  1. Employment opportunities

All the major cities of south India namely Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Chennai, Trivandrum and counting Mumbai and Pune in the same league are centers for technical employment and it is but obvious that the educational institutions around these cities are bound to deliver high quality professionals. In contrast to North the major cities Noida, Gurgaon, Chandigarh and Jaipur are the only few names and are mostly clustered thus quality technical education has not been able to sprout and spread evenly across the region.

  1. Practicality and approach based education

Most North Indian universities be Government or Private focus majorly on set and prescribed syllabuses and do not change them for decades together. This results in outdated content which leads to employability issues. In contrast South Indian Universities being in direct touch with private and government companies and organizations have constantly updated content and syllabus which makes them better as compared to the north. Also that the south Indian universities tend to keep a more practical and approach based system which is lacking in the north.

  1. Teacher Salaries

Though this element may sound inappropriate but its impact on the overall outlook of the education is large. Due to large population levels up in north the universities do not intend to pay well to the teachers which breed in a sense of disappointment and irresponsibility. The teachers do not wish to improvise or update themselves which directly impacts the students. On the contrary south India is a great place for teachers who are not only respected but also paid well resulting in a sense of belongingness and direct impact on their performance which clearly shows in the results.

  1. Snobbish Attitude

Largely in north India, parents concentrate less on quality and run more after brands which in all cases is always not good. Brands do not assure quality and are more hogwash and less reality. Compare that to the south where parents first focus on the quality and learning and then focus on branding resulting in quality maintenance and   responsibility sharing.

  1. Parental involvement

This is perhaps one of the biggest reasons for the stark difference. Parents in north India seldom take interest in knowing what their wards are learning as they do not find it as their responsibility. This is absolutely the opposite case in south India where parental involvement allows a bridge between the social expectation and institutional delivery.
