Major Education initiatives In Budget 2016 by Government of India

It is truly valid saying “The garden of tomorrow depends not only on the space you allocate but also on the gardeners”. Enhancing education in India is a priority not only for the government but also for the teachers. In keeping with the lofty ambitions of the Modi government, the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley aims to put India on the education map of the world.  Below are some major education initiatives in Budget 2016 taken by the Government.

Students need better facilities

Reaction to government initiative and the budget proposals highlighted some interesting points. Upon interacting with teachers, it was found that teachers had clear view of topical issues currently they were facing. The education sector in India was beginning to reshape the landscape by incorporating a framework that was gaining relevance by the day. With regards to their students, it has always been the question whether they were prepared for employment, is the viewpoint of teachers who were asked about situation the students were in at the present moment. With an idea of making access to common Indians education that was truly high class, the Finance Minister has formulated a detailed plan.

The HEFA Support Structure

The Finance Minister announced formation of Higher Education Financing Agency – the HEFA that will function as a funding agency for top institutions in the country.

Curriculum restructuring for industry collaboration was realized of late only due to collective initiative of teachers. On his part, Mr. Jaitley spoke of the creation of digital depository at all levels of the educational sector. This was aimed at helping students validate their authenticity, store and receive their college degrees, school leaving certificates, mark sheets and academic awards by merely going online.

Initiating High Quality Educational Institutions

Teachers want to see technological progress in the form of smart boards and related equipment installed in schools. However, these could face stiff problems due to high cost of maintenance and infrastructure. The government is supporting them in this regard too. Mr. Jaitley said 10 institutions each in both public and private sectors were to be built. These would be world-class institutions in teaching and research.

In the span of two years, the entire country would be covered with this new education infrastructure. An additional 62 Navodaya Vidyalayas are in the pipeline. However, he reiterated the need to achieve the primary target of achieving primary level education for all first. Following this, they would concentrate all efforts on raising the quality of education.
