Further Study options for a Doctor

Two postgraduate courses offered are M.D. and M.S., both being 3 year courses and requires M.B.B.S. as eligibility. M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) is specialized in general medicine. A doctor who finished this course can work as a Physician. M.S. (Master of Surgery) has specialization in surgery and upon finishing the course the doctor is eligible to work as a Surgeon. There is also a postgraduate diploma program for M.B.B.S. degree holders.

A doctor who specializes in children’s health is called a Pediatrician. A Cardiologist deals with heart problems, Neurosurgeon deals with illness affecting nerve system, orthopedic surgeon treats illness of skeletal structure, Ophthalmologists treats eye problems. Lot of other specializations are available as well.
